>B< MaxiPro helps DIY store stay open during air con refit
A DIY superstore was able to stay fully open as a new air conditioning system was being fitted thanks to the use of Conex Bänninger’s flame-free >B< MaxiPro pipework fittings.
The speed and simplicity of installation that the innovative press system provides also enabled the refurbishment, at the Praktiker store in Szeged, Hungary, to be completed ahead of schedule.
It took five engineers from contractor Kühltech, specialists in air conditioning and industrial and commercial refrigeration systems, just four days to fit the 180 kW total capacity VRF system throughout the building.
Some 800 >B< MaxiPro fittings were used on the 500 metres of pipework connecting the 4 x 45kW units.
It had been planned to complete the installation using traditional brazing, but the Kühltech team were so impressed by a presentation on the flame-free press solution they switched to >B< MaxiPro.
Csaba Peter-Siskovits, Conex Bänninger’s Sales Manager for Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, said: “The project had to be completed quickly and with little room to work in the ceiling space.
“As a flame-free press fitting, using >B< MaxiPro meant there was no need for hot works permits and the installation could be completed ‘live’ without the need for partial closure of the supermarket.”
It was the first time Kühltech had used the >B< MaxiPro copper press fittings range, which was created specifically for the higher pressures associated with air conditioning and refrigeration applications.
>B< MaxiPro can be used up to 48 bar with a permanent maximum operating temperature range of -40°C to 121°C. As a mechanical joint, unlike with brazing, there is no risk of fire and the speed of installation increases productivity. Following initial preparation a joint can be completed in just 5 seconds with the appropriate press tool and jaws.
It also has the benefit of a 3-point press, with one press each side of the bead and a third compressing the HNBR O-ring that provides a secure, leak-free joint.
When installed by a certified engineer to manufacturer’s guidelines, the fittings carry an extended 10-year guarantee.
Csaba provided >B< MaxiPro training for Kühltech at the company’s premises in Budapest. Kühltech was founded in 2008 and employs up to 15 people, depending on the size and type of project.
Herczeg Mihaly, Technical Manager for Kühltech, said: “The original plan for the VRF project had been to use brazing. But having seen a lot about >B< MaxiPro on the internet and then attending a presentation, we were so excited by it we decided to change to a flame-free solution.
“>B< MaxiPro is an elegant solution, it’s fast, easy and provides a secure pipework connection.”
