>B< Press XL – press fittings up to 108 mm

While the standard series ends at 54 mm, XL fittings cover the range from 64 to 108 mm and are intended for installations requiring large flow cross-sections while maintaining all the advantages of press technology: speed of installation, no open flame, and repeatable joint quality.

What distinguishes XL from standard fittings?

The most important difference is the pressing technology.

What distinguishes XL from standard fittings? The most important difference is the press technology. Standard sizes typically feature:

  • B-profile jaw

  • 3-point pressing

In XL systems:

  • M-profile sling

  • Pressing takes place at 2 points

  • appropriate slings, adapters and more powerful tools are required.

It’s not just a larger fitting – it’s a different way of working with the installation.

    The pressing mechanism
The >B< Press system uses a unique 3-point profile: two mechanical hexagonal pressing points on both sides of the fitting bead and one point pressing the O-ring. In the XL series, this is complemented by the mechanical compression of a stainless steel ring — a key distinguishing feature of XL fittings which, alongside the EPDM seal, mechanically grips the pipe during pressing. The result is an exceptionally secure and durable connection, resistant to pull-out forces, even at large diameters and higher system pressures.

XL product series in the Conex Bänninger range XL fittings are available in three material variants, tailored to the type of installation and medium:

Series Material Diameters [mm] Main Application
    >B< Press XL Cupru CW024A 64 – 108 Versatile: water, heating, cooling, solar systems
    >B< Press Inox 316L XL 316L Stainless Steel 76 – 108 Drinking water, wastewater systems, hot and cold water, rainwater, solar systems
    >B< Press Carbon XL Carbon Steel 76 – 108 Closed heating and cooling circuits, solar installations

    >B< Press XL – copper

The flagship and most widely used XL series. Copper >B< Press XL fittings are recommended as an excellent choice for drinking water, heating, cooling, and industrial installations where the medium does not cause copper corrosion. The fittings can be used with pipes complying with the EN 1057 standard (hard tubes).

B< Press Inox 316L XL – Stainless Steel

Designed for environments requiring special hygiene or increased corrosion resistance. Available in diameters from 76–108 mm. Application: drinking water installations, food and pharmaceutical industries, rooms with high humidity and demineralized water systems.

B< Press Carbon XL – Carbon Steel

An economical alternative for closed heating and cooling circuits where the medium does not come into contact with atmospheric oxygen. There is no risk of corrosion in closed systems. Recommended for large central heating installations in commercial and industrial facilities.

Installation Procedure – Requirements and Sequence of Operations

    Prerequisites

    • Press tool with a pressing force of at least 32 kN.

    • Press slings matched to the specific fitting diameter (64, 76.1, 88.9, or 108 mm).

    • Pipes with wall thicknesses according to the tables in the technical catalogs.

    • Minimum working clearances from structural elements must be maintained to allow the press collar to rotate freely around the fitting.

    Step-by-Step Installation

    1. Cutting the pipe: The pipe must be cut at a right angle (tolerance ±1°). Use a rotary pipe cutter – do not use a toothed saw, as it causes damage to the pipe end.

    2. Calibrating the pipe end: Remove internal and external burrs. Use a half-round file or a deburring tool. Check the roundness of the cross-section – ovalization exceeding 1% of the external diameter requires calibration with a forming tool.

    3. Cleaning: The pipe end must be thoroughly cleaned using a cleaning pad by rotating it. Pipe ends must be free of scratches, dirt, and contaminants.

    4. Inserting the pipe: Insert the pipe into the fitting until it reaches the stop or the insertion depth marked with a pen. Inserting the pipe at an angle risks damaging the O-rings and causing leaks.

    5. Selecting jaws and slings: Match the slings to the fitting size according to the Conex Bänninger tool compatibility table. Using slings of the wrong size or profile (e.g., B instead of M) results in incorrect pressing and voiding of the warranty.

    6. Pressing: Start the press tool and carry out the cycle until the collars are fully closed. A tool equipped with a cycle completion indicator confirms correct pressing. Do not interrupt the cycle halfway.

    7. Visual inspection: Check the uniformity of the press profile around the entire circumference. Asymmetric deformation indicates incorrect positioning of the collars.

    8. Pressure test: Perform a pressure test after completing the installation.

    Warranty

Conex Universal Ltd. provides a 25-year warranty on >B< Press XL fittings (copper series) and >B< Press INOX XL 316, and a 5-year warranty on >B< Press Carbon XL, covering material defects resulting from manufacturing errors, subject to professional installation and operation in accordance with the manufacturer’s technical instructions. The warranty becomes void in the event of:

    • installation not in accordance with the instructions (incorrect tools, improper insertion depths),
    • use of a medium or operating parameters outside the permitted range,
    • mechanical interference with a pressed connection.

    Summary

B< Press XL press fittings are a practical alternative to brazing and welding in diameters of 64–108 mm. From the perspective of the installer and designer, the key advantages are:

    • Elimination of hot works and the associated health and safety formalities (permits, fire watch).
    • Connection repeatability independent of the operator’s qualifications — quality determined by the tool, not the operator.
    • Double pressing (EPDM O-ring + steel ring) ensuring durability under conditions of large diameters and variable pressures.
    • Availability in three material variants (Cu, Inox 316L, Carbon) allows optimal selection for every medium.
    • The press system allows a connection to be made in a matter of seconds.
    • Compatibility with widely available tools and collars. XL fittings are compatible with standard tools and collars in the 64–108 mm range (including Novopress, Klauke, Rems).
